Who We're Looking For

Thanks for your interest in becoming an Alpenglow Instructor! This initiative is designed to expand our capacity to deliver more Behavioral First Responder (BFR) courses in more places while reducing barriers for individuals seeking this essential training. We appreciate your interest in joining us in this mission! We’re seeking passionate educators with a blend of experiential education backgrounds and training in mental and behavioral health. Rather than requiring specific degrees or a set number of years of experience, we take an individualized approach to the application process. If you believe you’d be a great fit for delivering BFR courses, we encourage you to apply!

Overview

To maintain a high standard of education and ensure the continued growth of our curriculum, we ask that instructors commit to a few key responsibilities. Instructors are expected to teach at least one BFR course per year in their region, ensuring widespread access to this essential training. Additionally, all instructors must attend an annual instructor meeting, which lasts approximately two hours and can be attended virtually or in person. To uphold the quality of course delivery, new instructors must shadow an existing BFR course before leading their own. Applicants are responsible for covering their own travel, lodging, and food expenses for this shadowing experience.

Expectations

Becoming an Alpenglow Instructor means joining a tight-knit, supportive community dedicated to high-quality education and continuous innovation. Instructors can count on Alpenglow to assist with marketing efforts to promote their BFR courses, as well as provide a standardized slide deck and course materials to ensure consistency. Additionally, instructors will receive course essentials, including stickers, workbooks, and certification cards for participants. Students who complete the BFR course will also have access to online course resources for continued learning. To further support instructors, Alpenglow provides liability insurance for courses and, when possible, assists with logistics such as venue selection.

Logistics

The Level 1 BFR course is typically structured as a single 8-hour training session, with class sizes ranging from 12 to 20 students. Instructors are encouraged to adapt their teaching style to fit their strengths while still adhering to the pre-approved curriculum to maintain consistency in course content and learning outcomes.

Compensation

Instructors will work in collaboration with Alpenglow to ensure pricing aligns with organizational guidelines. Payment is based on the rate instructors set for their courses. While Alpenglow provides some materials, instructors are responsible for securing their own additional teaching materials as needed.
